New Kit in Progress!

New Kit in Progress!

It's the same every year, the heat rises and a large part of my brain packs its knapsack and goes off to the beach!

Whatever I 'should' be working on for a commission has to compete with a beach-themed ideas. This year it's seagulls, rock, buckets and spades and sea creatures of every kind....

My designs always start with an image. This should be carefully planned in my projects book but invariably this is on the back of an envelope, a napkin, a shopping list or on the back of a delivery note, whatever is at hand at the time.... example above!

My latest design 'Cliff' will be available next week. Cliff is a Herring Gull. I wanted him to look as if he might be trouble but as the design came together he turned out cuter. The denim bucket hat comes from a childhood memory.... I had one that I loved, it was too big and had holes on the brim. These holes were the best thing ever due to the fact they provided drainage - I could go into rock pools and the sea and fish with it. Water would gush out and my 'catch' would be left behind - perfect! Cliff's pattern is fairly simple throughout, all double crochet with a little surface embroidery on the hat button badge and the wings, so suitable for all levels of crocheter.

Cliff will be the first kit available in our new bags - organic cotton, produced with rainfall rather than irrigation. Together with our cotton yarn this is a kit I am quite proud of. I took one of the finished Cliffs off to the beach at Ynyslas for a photoshoot. If you see it on our instagram do send me a message, I'd love to know your thoughts.

And the rock, buckets and spades and sea creatures? Yes they're in production too!  All will be up this month! Including some simple to crochet sea themed kitchen cloths in recycled dishcloth cotton.

Whatever you are up to and wherever you're crocheting I hope you have a lovely summer,

Emma x
